Discount and final price calculator

Start from the original price and enter up to three discounts. The calculator applies them one after another and shows the final price, the amount taken off and the equivalent single discount.

The calculation runs in your browser. Your numbers are not sent anywhere.

How stacked discounts are calculated

Stacked discounts do not add up. The second one applies to the price left after the first: 10% followed by 5% takes 1,000 to 900 and then to 855, a total discount of 14.5%, not 15%.

The equivalent discount is 1 − (1 − d1) × (1 − d2) × …, with each discount written as a fraction. The order of the discounts does not change the final price.

This comes up when a supplier gives a list discount and then a volume discount, or when an early-payment discount is added to the discount in a quote.

Final price and VAT

Discounts usually apply to the price before VAT, and VAT is calculated after the discount. If you start from a price that includes VAT, the discount percentage stays the same, because the same VAT rate applies before and after.

To find the discount between two prices, divide the difference by the original price: from 200 to 150, the discount is 25%.

Discounts in a quote

In a quote, a discount can sit on each line or on the total. On the line, the client sees which product was discounted; on the total, it reads better when the discount depends on the order value.

Before you give a discount, check what is left of your margin. The markup and margin calculator shows the profit at the new price.

Put the price into a quote

Got your price? The free quote maker turns it into a PDF or Word quote, no account needed. With an Oifers account, the quote goes to the client as a link: you see when it was opened, and the client accepts it online with a code sent by email.

Frequently asked questions

Do two discounts add up?

No. 20% followed by 10% is a total discount of 28%, not 30%, because the second applies to the already discounted price.

How do I calculate the price after a discount?

Final price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). For 500 with a 15% discount, the final price is 425.

Does the order of discounts matter?

Not for the final price: 10% then 5% gives the same result as 5% then 10%. Only the amount taken off at each step changes.

Does it work for any currency?

Yes. The calculator works with percentages, so the result is in whatever currency you entered the original price in.
