Add VAT to an amount before VAT, or take the VAT out of a price that includes it. Pick 21%, 11% or 0%, or enter any other rate. The result shows the net amount, the VAT and the total.

The presets are Romania's rates: 21% standard and 11% reduced, in force since 1 August 2025, plus 0%. If you work with another country's VAT, choose “Other rate” and enter it.
Some sales are exempt or fall under the reverse charge, and then no VAT appears on the document. If you are not sure which rate applies to what you sell, ask your accountant: the calculator only does the arithmetic.
VAT = net amount × rate ÷ 100, and total = net amount + VAT. For 1,000 before VAT at 21%, the VAT is 210 and the total 1,210.
Business-to-business quotes usually show prices before VAT, with VAT added at the end. For consumers it is clearer to show the total including VAT, so they see what they will pay.
Net = gross price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). For 1,210 including 21% VAT, the net amount is 1,210 ÷ 1.21 = 1,000 and the VAT 210.
The common mistake is to take 21% off the gross price: 1,210 minus 21% is 955.90, not 1,000. The VAT inside a price of 100 at 21% is 17.36.
A clear quote says whether prices include VAT and which rate applies. When one quote has products at different rates, show the VAT for each rate separately.
A quote is not a tax document: VAT is charged on the invoice. The calculator helps you check the amounts before you put them in a quote or an invoice.
Got your price? The free quote maker turns it into a PDF or Word quote, no account needed. With an Oifers account, the quote goes to the client as a link: you see when it was opened, and the client accepts it online with a code sent by email.
The standard rate is 21% and the reduced rate 11%, both since 1 August 2025. Some sales are exempt or fall under the reverse charge.
Divide the price by 1 plus the rate: by 1.21 for 21%, by 1.11 for 11%. The difference between the price and the result is the VAT.
Because 21% applies to the net amount, not the total. Out of 121, the VAT is 21, which is 17.36% of 121.
The calculator does not choose the rate. For reverse charge or exempt sales choose 0% and state the regime on the document, as your accountant advises.
